Birthkind Certified Providers uphold professional standards rooted in inclusivity, respect, and evidence-based practice. Each provider commits to the following principles:

  1. Inclusivity and Respect for Diversity
    • Demonstrate active inclusivity toward all individuals, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, family structure, race, ethnicity, religion, or socioeconomic status.
    • Use inclusive language in all communications, materials, and interactions (e.g., using terms such as mother, women, birthing person, folks, parents, and families interchangeably and respectfully).
  2. Commitment to Social Equity
    • Actively work towards closing cultural, economic, and systemic divides within reproductive health care.
    • Provide compassionate, culturally sensitive support that addresses disparities affecting marginalized communities.
  3. Unity and Collaboration
    • Serve as an advocate and facilitator who fosters unity and collaboration in birth spaces, avoiding divisive behaviors or language.
    • Engage respectfully and constructively with all healthcare providers, maintaining professionalism and prioritizing harmonious, interdisciplinary teamwork.
  4. Anti-antagonism and Professional Respect
    • Actively commit to anti-antagonistic interactions, refraining from actions or language that provoke conflict or undermine fellow providers.
    • Maintain respectful, supportive relationships across all birth and postpartum care roles.
  5. Dedication to Evidence-Based Practices
    • Provide care grounded firmly in current, peer-reviewed research and evidence-based standards.
    • Continually pursue ongoing education to ensure practices are aligned with the most recent and reputable scientific information and evidence.
  6. Scope of Practice
    • Clearly understand, respect, and adhere strictly to the provider's defined scope of practice, avoiding medical diagnosis or performing clinical tasks beyond professional boundaries without appropriate license or certification.
    • Prioritize informed consent, bodily autonomy, and client empowerment throughout all interactions.
  7. Continuous Personal and Professional Growth
    • Regularly engage in self-reflection, education, and professional development opportunities related to inclusivity, cultural competency, anti-racism, and equitable care practices.
    • Welcome constructive feedback and remain committed to evolving personal practice to meet high professional standards and community needs.
